Reiki

What is it?

Reiki (pronounced ray key) has its roots in Japan and was founded in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui. He developed the practice as a simple way to support wellbeing by working with natural life energy. It might sound a little ‘woo’, but it is something many cultures have recognised for centuries. Over time, Reiki spread across the world and gently evolved, but the heart of it has always stayed the same. It’s all about calmness, kindness, and connection. Today it’s used alongside modern life as a way to relax the nervous system, support emotional balance, and create space to breathe – which feels more needed than ever.

During a Reiki session, everything is designed to help you feel calm, safe, and able to switch off from the outside world. I begin by clearing the space with intention (and sometimes sage) to create a peaceful, settled environment. You’ll lie down comfortably, fully clothed, while I work through the body’s energy centres – often called the chakras – and the surrounding aura field, helping to ease areas where energy may feel stuck or heavy. Most of the time my hands are just above the body in different positions, allowing the energy to flow where it’s needed, although gentle hands-on contact can be included if that feels comfortable for you and we’ve agreed it beforehand. Many people drift into a deeply relaxed state, somewhere between waking and sleep, and simply allow their body to do what it needs to do. The whole experience is quiet, nurturing, and focused entirely on you.

Who is it for?

That’s easy, everyone!

I am happy to work with those who have had Reiki before, or who are exploring the practice for the first time. If you are open to the possibilities of Reiki, then this is for you.

Reiki is also used to treat animals. This is not an area of focus for me, I am able to recommend those who specialise in animal Reiki if you need.

I am insured to be able to treat those from the age of 6 up, with parental consent and supervision. Those aged 16 and over are able to attend without an adult, although if they feel more comfortable with an adult present this is something I welcome whole heartedly.

Why have Reiki?

Why not?

People come for Reiki for all sorts of reasons, but usually it’s because something feels out of balance, stress levels may be high, emotions feel heavy, sleep is off, or life just feels a bit overwhelming.

Reiki helps by encouraging deep relaxation, which allows your nervous system to settle and your body to move out of that constant “on edge” mode. From there, many people notice they feel calmer, clearer in their thinking, more emotionally steady, and better able to cope with whatever life is bringing.

You don’t need to be struggling to benefit, though. Some people have Reiki simply because it feels good! It’s like giving yourself space to breathe, reset, and reconnect with yourself for an hour. It’s gentle, supportive, and works alongside whatever else you have going on in your life. Think of it as maintenance for your energy and wellbeing, not just something you turn to when things feel difficult.

When or how often should you have Reiki?

There isn’t a strict rule for how often you should have Reiki, it really depends on you, your life, and what you feel you need.

Some people come weekly for a short period if they’re going through something stressful or emotional, as regular sessions can help the body settle more quickly into balance.

Others prefer monthly sessions as a kind of wellbeing top-up, a bit like maintenance for their energy and nervous system. And some people just book when they feel the nudge that they need a reset.

The most important thing is listening to yourself. Reiki isn’t something you can have “too much” of. It’s gentle and works with your body at its own pace, we can always talk together about what feels right for you.

Where are sessions held?

I have a beautiful healing studio in Royal Wootton Bassett, located next to my shop, just off the High Street. Something Kind of Woo Too is a tranquil space, that I have created to be cosy, calming and welcoming.

The postcode is SN4 7AF. There is free parking available on the High Street for 2 hours before 6pm, with additional paid for parking available in Borough Fields.

The beauty of Reiki is that it can also be conducted at distance, which means you could be at home with myself at the healing studio. If you would like to know more about this, please do get in touch HERE.

How much is a session and how do I book?

I offer two options.

20 minutes for £20. This is ideal for a little ‘top-up; or to try Reiki if you’re not ready or sure about a full session.

A full hour for £55.
